Preface
THE COMPILATION of an account of the succulent Euphorbias in southern Africa requires the study of so many different problems that no attempt could be made to undertake the work without the help of a large number of persons able to send plants, photographs and general information regarding the species which occur in different parts of the territory to be covered, as well as that of collectors who have studied the growth of many of the same species in cultivation in different parts of the world. We have been fortunate in receiving such help in generous measure and we thank all who have given it with much appreciation. In a sense our work is now only begun, and we hope all who have been interested in helping us will continue their support, so that the materials available for a possible second edition in the future may be still more complete, and we hope others will send us materials regarding the species in other parts of the world, so that if circumstances permit we may supplement the present volumes with others dealing with the succulent Euphorbias of other lands.
