Introduction
This year—1952—marks the 50th anniversary of game preservation in South Africa. The story is an involved one and has never been told in full, and it is doubtful if it can ever be pieced together satisfactorily because so much of it sprang from individual effort without thought of official recognition.
The following is a sketchy summing up of events in South Africa, as far as they are known. No names are mentioned because of the unfairness of giving credit to some, but not all, of those who took a hand.
